Gender Studies

Gender inequality is one of the biggest obstacles for human rights to be realized in Turkey as it is in the World. Research Worldwide İstanbul considers gender inequality as a human rights issue and aims for supporting the elimination of gender inequality in building a more human rights-based and democratic society.

Within the scope of its work fields, RWI carries out activities in order to improve the capacity they will use to encourage judicial and local authorities and, especially, the formal training to ensure gender equality. It is possible to collect the studies RWI carries out under 2 topics: (i) Gender equality-themed specific capacity building Works, (ii) Capacity building Works aimed for mainstreaming gender equality sensitivity

Supporting the mechanisms established to ensure gender equality in formal education institutions especially higher education institutions, supporting institutions’ first steps of institutionalization where it’s not sufficient or creating opportunities to share good institutionalization examples in this field with other higher education institutions can be given as examples of the activities that RWI carries out.

In order to mainstream gender sensitivity, the improvement studies that we support has crucial importance in order to sustain an understanding that favors human rights and a more equalitarian teaching process independent from the disciplines of the academics that lecture in higher education institutions. These improvement studies sometimes can be either short term training or through the presentation of tools specifically designed according to the needs of academics.

Apart from formal education institutions, improvement activities are carried out within the scope of the example of higher education with judicial and local authorities. Gender-oriented educations done in collaboration with bar associations can be given as an example for studies conducted with judicial institutions.

Capacity building targeted gender equality oriented training which are carried out in collaboration with local authorities and the support given to municipalities to mainstream the equality issue within their own institutions in order to develop a more equalitarian service understanding holds an important place among this kind of actions.
