Senex: III. Congress of Aging Studies for Graduate Students

Senex: III. Congress of Aging Studies for Graduate Students, held on November 1-2 in Akdeniz University in Antalya, Turkey took place with support from RWI for the third consecutive time. The Congress brings together graduate researchers studying old age and the aging process from social, behavioral and health perspectives and provides an interactive discussion platform where participants shared with the scientific world their empirical research and methodological contributions. The theme of this year’s Congress was “For the Next Generation: Welfare, Wellbeing, Equity, Employment, Health, Technology, Art, Education and Career”. Over 80 people participated in the Congress.

The Congress aims to: 1. Encourage young scientists from different fields who continue to pursue their graduate studies incorporating seminal works in aging studies; 2. Support social innovation in the field of aging studies; 3. Develop a social dialogue among experienced scientists, professionals, and young scientists who are working in fields related to aging studies, and; 4. Create a scientific network among scientists by coming together at regular intervals to engage in the transfer of knowledge and promotion of joint collaborations in aging studies. During the first day, young researchers presented their ongoing research projects and in the second day the researchers attended workshops in which experienced academics, professionals, experts from universities and nongovernmental organisations shared their knowledge and experience in the field.

RWI Director İlhami Alkan Olsson delivered a lecture on the international legal research agenda with regards to the elderly people on the plenary roundtable discussion. RWI also hosted a special plenary session on the feminist perspective on aging.
